COMPREHENSIVE RENOVATION ON GRAN DE GRÀCIA STREET IN BARCELONA

Next, from OAK , we present the complete renovation of a building on Gran de Gràcia street in Barcelona’s Eixample district, under the professional direction of interior designer Juliette Boulard . Special emphasis was placed on preserving the invaluable elements of the existing Modernist architecture . Therefore, highly technical restoration work was carried out to conserve the original hydraulic mosaic floors, wooden joinery, and molded ceilings.
A hydraulic mosaic is a decorative tile made of pigmented cement, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Over time, it deteriorates, and its visible surface loses shine, color, and texture; broken and chipped pieces can even be found. In this case, the base of the floor was level and in good condition, so the restoration work could be carried out on-site without dismantling the floor piece by piece. The client particularly valued the concept of imperfection in this type of element, being able to appreciate the passage of time and the fact that, for example, the pieces or grout lines were not absolutely identical.


The ceilings are repaired, preserving the original cornices as unique features. The wooden joinery is restored through a process of priming, sanding, and enameling it white.


For the kitchen cabinetry, the Milano 45 model from Dica was chosen, featuring integrated handles that create clean lines and a sense of order. The worktop is made of natural oak slats, adding a touch of warmth while continuing the concept of allowing the passage of time to show through in these types of noble materials, enhancing the beauty of imperfection and naturalness.



The bathrooms continue with the same concept of rusticity juxtaposed with modernity , maintaining the same lines of materials and tones. The shower screen, composed of a fixed glass panel, is by Lasser, and the porcelain sink is by Duravit.
