OAK Constructora at 48h Open House BCN 2026: we’re opening our full renovation in Sarrià
As every year, OAK is taking part in 48h Open House BCN, Barcelona’s leading architecture festival, and this year we’re doing it in two ways. First, as sponsors of the festival. Second, by opening the doors of one of our most recent projects: the full renovation in Sarrià we carried out together with BronsteinStudio.
On Saturday 24 October you’ll be able to walk through it in person, with no photos or intermediaries, and see how a home is transformed when design and construction go hand in hand.
What is 48h Open House BCN?
48h Open House Barcelona is a free annual festival that, over one weekend in October, opens buildings to the public that are usually closed. It is part of the international Open House Worldwide network, founded in London in 1992 and now present in dozens of cities.
The 2026 edition takes place on 24 and 25 October. It brings together more than 200 spaces in Barcelona, Badalona, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Sitges and Vilassar de Dalt, and coincides with Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture.
Our project is part of the Housing and Open PRO sections, the latter featuring tours led by the architects behind each project.
This edition revolves around the theme Life without architecture and introduces El Recomanador, a research project by the 48h Open House Barcelona association. By answering five questions about your tastes and senses, it suggests the three festival buildings that suit you best. You can try it at recomanador.openhousebarcelona.org. And no, it’s no coincidence that its campaign image features the kitchen of our renovation in Sarrià.
The full renovation in Sarrià we’re opening to the public
The home, around 110 m², is located on Carrer de Negrevernís, in the heart of the Sarrià neighbourhood. The project was designed by BronsteinStudio and built by OAK.
The starting point was a house with a generous, spacious structure, hidden beneath layers and elements added over the decades. The first major task was to strip away the superfluous and recover the essence of the original space.
From there, the new layout clearly separates the living areas from the private ones. The kitchen, living room and dining room come together in a single continuous space, designed for family life as well as for the owners working from home, with a fluid, unfussy flow throughout.

Materials and design solutions
Wood as the common thread
The project recovers the material language of the original home. Wood is the central element, on floors and walls, bringing warmth with a contemporary feel.
A mirror that doubles the depth
A large mirror in the dining room visually doubles the depth of the space and carries natural light to the back of the floor plan. It’s an especially valuable solution in the deep floor plans so common in Barcelona.
Stone, fluted glass and microcement
Alongside the wood, the house combines stone, fluted glass and microcement. These different textures follow a shared logic of light and continuity, respecting the domestic scale and historic character of the home.
This approach, which preserves the value of what already exists and brings it up to date, runs through all our full renovations in Barcelona and our home restoration work.

Why we support 48h Open House
We sponsor the festival every year because we believe in its purpose: bringing architecture closer to everyone and showing that it is an essential part of the city’s culture. It is a free event, largely made possible by volunteers and by companies that share this vision.
This year we share sponsorship with organisations such as Casa SEAT, Aigües de Barcelona, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, La Pedrera and the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, in a festival backed by Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, among other institutions.
Opening one of our own projects is the other side of that commitment. A renovation is best understood by walking through it rather than looking at a photo: the quality of the finishes, how the materials come together and how good design changes the way you live in a home.
It is also a way of recognising teamwork. Behind every project there are architects, interior designers, tradespeople and partners who make the result possible. And there are owners who, as in this case, have generously opened their home to the city.
If you’re thinking about renovating your home in Sarrià or anywhere else in Barcelona, come and see us on Saturday. And if you can’t make it, tell us about your project: as a construction company in Barcelona with over 30 years of experience, we’ll be with you from the very first visit to handing over the keys.
