Rehabilitation of a house in La Garriga

At OAK2000, specializing in renovations, construction, and refurbishments, we welcome spring with new comprehensive renovation projects on the table. In this case, we’ve begun work on the renovation of a house in La Garriga, commissioned by Jannike and Pau. They contacted us with the aim of completely transforming their family home, which currently suffers from numerous structural and electrical weaknesses, including inadequate thermal insulation and termite infestations.

We have started working with them on the interior design project with great enthusiasm on both sides, and we are sure that this project, which we have enjoyed from a very early stage, will not leave us indifferent.

The leitmotif of the rehabilitation project was to remedy these weaknesses and give the house, literally, a 180º turn in order to orient daily life towards the privileged garden to make the most of the light and create a fluid connection between the interior and exterior.

Another essential requirement was to design a functional and easy-to-maintain space adapted to the busy lifestyle of its inhabitants. We hope to show you the progress soon, as we are still in the initial phase of the project, where enthusiasm and eagerness to begin prevail. There are still many emotional states to experience, which our clients always go through and which we try to describe since they repeat themselves time and time again!

Every transformation begins with the design phase, which must be started with enthusiasm because otherwise… it loses all meaning! Once the design is defined, the work begins with the demolition, a phase in which the client can immediately observe a great transformation of the space and in which enthusiasm grows as a result of this immediate change.

We continue with the new partition walls, where the feeling of having reduced the space is extremely unsettling. “Did we make a mistake with the measurements?” they wonder, because the red color of the brick is sensory-distracting. It’s a strong, dominant color that tends to distort spaces. We won’t be able to change this feeling until the new walls are plastered, the off-white color predominates, and more light is brought into every corner.

The next phase is the installation and layout, where a sense of uncertainty truly sets in. “What are they doing?” or “Haven’t they come in today?” are questions we hear constantly on every renovation project. It’s an extremely laborious and important phase, but one that doesn’t look good to our clients. We don’t restore their enthusiasm until we begin the next step (tiling, suspended ceilings, and flooring), but once it’s back, it’s unstoppable. Day by day, the changes are noticeable with the installation of doors, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities… And finally, it’s time to paint!

In the days leading up to the completion of a project, our clients are often exhausted, but we only ask for a final moment of rest so we can clean the space and, on the day of delivery, see the satisfaction and enthusiasm we started with reflected in their faces! That’s when a complete renovation truly makes sense!
