One of the most common questions people have before starting home renovations concerns the cost. Due to a lack of awareness or information, we sometimes overlook the fact that there are grants available for home renovations that can make the process easier. But what are the main subsidies? Grants for home renovation Most of these types of aid are included in the 2018-2021 State Housing Plan , which comprises a total of nine programs. Three of these programs deserve our attention:
  • Program 5: Promoting improved energy efficiency and sustainability in homes
  • Program 6: Promotion of conservation, improvement of safety and accessibility in housing.
  • Program 7: Promotion of urban and rural regeneration and renewal.
With this Plan, for the first time in the history of these programs, single-family homes—whether detached or terraced, in urban and rural areas—and individual apartments can apply for a subsidy for renovations, including their interiors. However, this is only possible if the renovation is necessary and not for purely aesthetic reasons.

Types of aid for home renovation 

Energy efficient

The Program to promote the improvement of energy efficiency and sustainability in homes aims to regulate aid for works to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of single-family homes and buildings that have the category of collective residence. Who is it aimed at? To owners, communities of neighbors and also construction companies and firms.  To be eligible, at least 50% of the building must be used as a primary residence and the building’s age should preferably be at least 1996.

Conservation and accessibility

Its objective is to finance the implementation of works for conservation, improvement of safety of use and universal accessibility, both in residential buildings and in single-family homes (urban or rural). Who is it aimed at? To owners, communities and companies, and buildings prior to 1996.

Urban and rural regeneration and renewal

Its purpose is to finance the rehabilitation works of residential buildings and individual homes, as well as other urbanization works that improve the conditions of the buildings.
