Home electrical system maintenance
Today at OAK, we’d like to emphasize the importance of having a 100% safe electrical installation . This may seem obvious to many of you, but it’s always worth remembering that the safety of our homes depends largely on the condition of our electrical system.
Each Autonomous Community has the obligation to carry out a review of the electrical system of the homes that comprise it and, to make this possible, each one has its own rules, for example, in the Community of Madrid it has been established that all buildings with a total installed power greater than 100 Kw and with more than 25 homes, must undergo an electrical inspection (provided that the legalization of their installation is prior to 2003).

However, electrical installations within the home are our responsibility. In fact, it is estimated that almost 70% of homes have a faulty and unsafe electrical system, and many of these predate 1973, when there was no law regulating the electrical system . As a result, one of the main causes of fires in Spanish homes is outdated or poorly maintained electrical installations .
Next, we would like to give you some safety tips for maintaining your home’s electrical installation :
- General recommendations
- If you are going to work on any part of your home’s electrical installation, do not do so without first disconnecting the main power switch in the main protection panel.
- If you need to make a modification to your electrical installation, it is best to contact a certified installer.
- Children
- Very important! Do not leave electrical appliances within reach of children. Avoid having electrical appliances or loose cables in their room.
