DESCRIPTION

The Fundació Nou Barris, a child and adolescent mental health center, has found a suitable location in the Verdum neighborhood of Barcelona for its new headquarters. The space, located on the ground floor of a large apartment building, has upper openings closed with grilles and was previously used as a storage area. Although almost open-plan, the space includes numerous pillars that complicate the layout.

The design proposal for the new space that will house this entity is based on five main concepts:

1. Warmth: Use of pine wood to create a welcoming atmosphere and connect with the young users of the center.

2. Transparency vs. Privacy: Optimization of natural light with half-height blinds and reinforced glass to guarantee privacy without losing brightness.

3. Waiting reception: Create a less unpleasant waiting experience with a warm design, such as a V-shaped bench and decorative lamps.

4. User contextualization: A friendly environment for users, using colors and rounded shapes inspired by the Catalan artist Clàudia Valsells.

5. Accompaniment: Use of rounded and abstract stains in the decoration, symbolizing the learning and acceptance process guided by the therapists.

This approach seeks to respond to the growing demand for mental health care for young people, by creating a functional and welcoming space.
